Many abilities common to several monsters appear in the universal monster rules. Unique abilities are described below the monster’s stat block. While each monster is a unique creature, many possess similar special attacks, defenses, and qualities.

Specifically, places Special Abilities entries ABOVE Ecology information (Environment, Organization, and Treasure), so that Special Abilities appear together with the main combat statistics and the Ecology or background or descriptive information appears in a larger bottom area of the page where more detailed information can all appear together. This is done with the intention of improving the usability of referencing monster stat blocks by a GM during, or while planning for, a game session by clustering all of the monsters most important abilities together which are most often referenced during an encounter. The stat blocks for monsters on have a minor change to the order in which the Ecology and Special Abilities information is presented.
